The special team will check all the available information and allegations as well as collect new information and investigate potential witnesses in order to establish and arrest the persons who may have ordered and executed the killings, the ministry said.
It added that four days ago the Zagreb Prosecutor's Office requested the Police Directorate to check the claims a protected witness made before the Zagreb County Court investigating judge.
The witness allegedly claimed early last week that he had witnessed the killing of Serbs from the eastern city of Osijek and that the killings had been carried out at the orders of Branimir Glavas, an independent member of Parliament who served as head of the National Defence Office in Osijek at the time of the alleged crimes.
