Compared to the situation at the end of last year, when approximately 1,206,000 Croats used Internet services, this would be an annual increase of 13.6 per cent.

Last year private citizens and business enterprises spent in excess of US$189 million on Internet access services.

Although the dial-up technology still dominates over other types of Internet access services, accounting for 93 per cent of all Internet connections established in Croatia by the end of 2004, its share continues to shrink due to the development of broadband services.

By the end of 2004 Croatia had 30,550 broadband Internet connections, which was an increase of as much as 594 per cent from 2003.

In its second annual study of the Croatian e-commerce market, the IDC found that last year Internet transactions in Croatia generated a turnover of about $263 million, or 85.9 per cent more than in the previous year.

Nearly 90 per cent of the amount accounted for business-to-business (B2B) transactions and the rest for business-to-consumer (B2C) commerce.
