BELGRADE, June 2 (Hina) - ICTY Chief Prosecutor Calra del Ponte said on Thursday after talks with Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica that she was satisfied with cooperation between the Serbian Government and the Hague-based tribunal and that she expected that new arrests of ICTY indictees would be made.

"We don't doubt the Serbian government is ready to cooperate," del Ponte said and added that the tribunal was finally certain that the cooperation would be completed and that every indictee would soon be extradited.

Kostunica said that since del Ponte's last visit to Belgrade, major progress had been made in the voluntary surrender of indictees to the tribunal in The Hague.

"Cooperation would be impossible without understanding on the part of the ICTY and the prosecution. Two-way communication is important and it is visible in the fact that 15 indictees have voluntarily surrendered to The Hague over the past few months, while on the other hand six indictees have been granted provisional release," Kostunica said.

"I would be the happiest man in the world if all our obligations towards the ICTY were fulfilled yesterday," Kostunica said an added that the Serbian government was aware that full cooperation with the Hague tribunal meant meeting those conditions. He said he would do everything to ensure full cooperation.

Asked to comment on yesterday's arrest of several perpetrators of war crimes in Srebrenica, several hours after the tape of the crimes was shown at the trial of Slobodan Milosevic, del Ponte said this was a brilliant operation because perpetrators were identified in a matter of hours. This operation shows that authorities in Serbia are ready and capable of discontinuing the policy of not punishing war crimes.

"I expect the authorities in Belgrade to react in the same way to my indicted fugitives and arrest them as well," she said.

Del Ponte also met Serbia and Montenegro President Svetozar Marovic and told him she expected full cooperation from his country, notably the extradition of another ten war crimes indictees, including Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic.

She is also expected to meet the head of the National Council for cooperation with the ICTY, Rasim Ljajic, and Foreign Minister Vuk Draskovic.

After Belgrade, del Ponte was scheduled to visit Zagreb and Sarajevo.
