BUDAPEST, May 7 (Hina) - All political parties in Croatia support Croatia's admission to the European Union and there is a political consensus on that matter, and slowing down that process would have a negative effect on political and economic trends both in Croatia and the entire region, Croatian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks said at a conference of European parliamentary speakers in Budapest on Saturday.

"We believe that slowing down the process of admission of Croatia and other countries to the European

Union is not in the interests of those countries or the EU," Seks said, adding that Croatia regretted the postponement of its EU entry talks, which he said was also perceived in Croatia as an injustice. He expressed hope that the current situation would be solved soon.

Croatia is doing its best to solve the remaining outstanding issue in its cooperation with the Hague war crimes tribunal, that of General Ante Gotovina, Seks said.

Croatia has so far made considerable progress in all areas of political and social life, especially in the adjustment of its legislation to EU standards, and it is fully aware of its role as factor of regional security, Seks said, adding that Croatia welcomed and encouraged reforms in neighbouring countries.

The Sabor Speaker also said that Croatia was interested in strengthening cooperation with the European Parliament and the parliaments of EU members, candidate countries and countries covered by the Stabilisation and Association Process.
