ZAGREB, April 14 (Hina) - Croatian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks on Thursday received the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Romanian Parliament, Adrian Nastase, who is in Zagreb attending the Crans Montana Forum, Seks's office said in a statement.

Seks and Nastase discussed the progress of their countries towards European Union membership and the possibility of Croatia using Romania's experience in the process, which Seks said Croatia was very much interested in.

Nastase said his attendance at the Crans Montana Forum was an expression of friendly support to Croatia's efforts to join the EU, underlining the importance of solidarity among Southeast European countries in the process of accession to the bloc.

Seks said that Croatia supported the fastest possible admission of Romania to the EU, because otherwise the process of Croatia joining the bloc could be slowed.

Speaking of the EU's decision to delay membership talks with Croatia, Seks said that "the only stumbling block is the question of interpretation of full cooperation with the Hague tribunal."

The Croatian Parliament speaker said that the EU task force charged with evaluating Croatia's cooperation with the tribunal would make judgement on this together with the tribunal's Chief Prosecutor, Carla del Ponte.

Seks and Nastase agreed that in overcoming possible problems in maintaining the set pace of the EU enlargement process it was important for Southeast European countries to step up cooperation in order to further stabilise the region and to help one another in order to facilitate their progress to full membership of the EU.

The two officials concluded that cooperation should also be encouraged between the parliamentary committees for foreign affairs and European integration.

Nastase accepted with pleasure an invitation from Seks to pay a reciprocal visit to Croatia in the near future, the statement said.
