ZAGREB, April 20 (Hina) - Social Democratic Party (SDP) leader Ivica Racan said on Wednesday that the government's economic policy made no sense and was not development-oriented, adding that the government was talking much, but doing little.

"Instead of a development-oriented and meaningful policy, the government offers us a policy of survival until elections, until the start of negotiations, etc.," Racan said at a news conference.

Stating that he did not want to interfere in "the current debates" between President Stjepan Mesic and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader about economic policy, Racan said that the SDP could not but warn about "the foggy prospects of efforts to overcome the grave economic situation that the government has been offering".

Racan also said that his party had completed preparations for the upcoming local elections, at which it will run in all counties (in Pozega and Istria counties the SDP will run independently, and in other counties it will form coalitions with other parties), towns (except for Vrlika) and in 90 percent of municipalities.

Commenting on conclusions of the parliament's commission set up to probe the case of the Rijeka shipyard "Viktor Lenac", which said that the former government issued guarantees to the ailing shipyard exclusively according to political criteria, Racan said that the quarrel at yesterday's session of the commission bore witness to the failure of attempts to use the commission to attack members of the former government.
