ZAGREB, April 14 (Hina) - The Istrian Democratic Party (IDS) said on Thursday it was pleased with the adoption of the parliamentary Declaration on Antifascism and hoped that it would be used by the government as the basis for a law equating the rights of antifascist World War II veterans with those of Homeland War veterans.

The head of the IDS Club of Deputies, Damir Kajin, said at a press conference in Zagreb that the declaration had given the veterans of the 1941-1945 National Liberation Struggle (NOB) "satisfaction for the humiliation many of them have been subjected to".

"Now it is up to the government to compensate the NOB veterans for damage," Kajin said.

The IDS official said he was "extremely pleased" that the right-wing Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) had proposed their own declaration on antifascism, even though it had not been endorsed by Parliament.

"Through their own declaration, the HSP are disassociating themselves from their delusions in 1990, the policy they ran until April 12 this year. Through their own declaration, they are condemning themselves for brazenly displaying a picture of (Ustasha leader Ante) Pavelic at their headquarters or for (HSP leader Anto) Djapic's measuring of the height of corn by raising his arm (in a Nazi salute)," Kajin said.

Kajin believes that the main purpose of the HSP declaration was the party's attempt to enter the HDZ-led government.

"The HSP want to buy a ticket for the government, because their attempt to do so in 2003 was thwarted by Germany, and now they are aware that Sanader can rehabilitate them," Kajin said, adding that the IDS would not want to see the HSP in the government because that would not be good for the country.
