ZAGREB, April 19 (Hina) - Decisions on guarantees issued to the Viktor Lenac shipyard were the results of political decision-making by the former coalition government, according to conclusions which a parliamentary commission of inquiry made on this matter.

Decisions of an exclusively political nature cannot be justified by social criteria or criteria for economic development, the commission said in conclusions which will be sent to the Croatian Sabor.

Politically wrong decisions have caused great damage which is being covered only with funds from the state budget, i.e. by tax payers.

Dragica Zgrebec of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Josip Vresk of the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) made their own opinions, distancing themselves from the commission's conclusions.

Branimir Glavas of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) also distanced himself from the conclusions and walked out at the start of the commission's session on Tuesday in protest against the fact that a preliminary version of the conclusions was leaked out. He also insisted on finding out who had, without any authorisation, made the draft conclusions public.

The ten conclusions are the result of the six-month-work of the parliamentary fact-finding commission.

The commission accuses the former government of failing to study documents pertaining to the development of the Lenac shipyard, and of failing to analyse its financial situation.

The then management of the shipyard is accused of incorrectly presenting the real state of affairs to the government.

The commission suggests measures, including the continuation of legal proceedings against the shipyard's former director, Damir Vrhovnik, which the State Prosecutor launched in November charging him with company mismanagement.

The commission urges the Office of the State Prosecutor to enable the state to regain ownership over coastal land which was unlawfully entered into land books as being owned by the company.
