Von Habsburg is travelling the United States and holding talk with US officials, academicians and members of various organisations.
Speaking about the integration of the Balkans into the EU on Voice of America on Saturday, he said Croatia was on the right path.
It's an excellent country, markedly European. When you travel Croatia you can see the whole Europe, he said.
Von Habsburg described the Croats as a "very civilised people," and said that Croatia's recovery was outstanding given that it had not received significant foreign assistance.
He was very critical of Hague war crimes tribunal chief prosecutor Carla del Ponte, whose assessment that Croatia is not cooperating fully with the UN court due to the failure to extradite fugitive General Ante Gotovina led to the postponement of Croatia's EU entry negotiations last month.
Von Habsburg said the way in which del Ponte led the tribunal's Prosecution showed she did not understand the law.
She wants retroactive laws which is contrary to our legal principles. Secondly, her approach is that the accused must prove their innocence. This has never been the right legal principle, said von Habsburg.
I think what she is proposing is completely wrong and that we must do everything so that Croatia can become a member of the European Union as soon as possible, he said.
