ZAGREB, April 13 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Wednesday adopted a declaration on Anti-Fascism confirming Croatia's anti-fascist and democratic foundations and its deep commitment to values of the contemporary democracy.

The text of the declaration was harmonised by all clubs of parliamentary parties, except the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) which drafted its own document on this topic.

Ninety-one MPs voted for the declaration, two were against and eight abstained.

The Sabor recalls in the document that the fundamental antifascist values are unequivocally accepted in Croatia, and calls for the permanent promotion and protection of those values and achievements of Anti-Fascism.

The Sabor calls on state bodies and public institutions to look at the historical period of the Second World War in a fair, comprehensive and unbiased manner, and not to equate the Anti-Fascist Movement with the ideology of Communism.

State bodies are urged to protect and promote, by legal means and activities, the antifascist achievements, values and orientation of the Croatian society and state, and to work to maintain the dignity of and care for participants in the Anti-Fascist Struggle as well as help maintain monuments erected in tribute to Anti-Fascism.

This section of the document is the point in which the declaration differs from the HSP declaration and it was the reason why not only HSP MPs but also four Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) MPs -- Branimir Glavas, Vladimir Sisljagic, Ivan Drmic and Zeljko Krapljan, as well as independent MP Ivo Loncar, voted for the HSP declaration.

Glavas later told reporters that he was against attempts to protect "a privileged caste that was established after 1945, i.e. in the wake of WWII".

Regarding the protection of monuments from the 1941-1945 National War of Independence (NOB), this should be a job for experts as NOB monuments were set up everywhere and often without any criterion, Glavas said.

The HSP declaration was supported by 12 MPs, 51 were against, and 38 abstained.
