ZAGREB, April 7 (Hina) - Parliament on Thursday adjourned a debate on a parliamentary declaration on anti-fascism after MPs voted for an agreement reached by representatives of deputies' clubs that a three-member task force would draft it by Wednesday.

Representatives of deputies' clubs held a three-hour meeting, without the Party of Rights (HSP), at which they agreed that the task force should consist of representatives of the two parties which moved the declaration, Valter Poropat of the Istrian Democratic Party (IDS) and Antun Vujic of the Social Democrats (SDP), and Ivan Jarnjak on behalf of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks said.

In drafting the declaration, the task force will consider the IDS and SDP proposals as well as others moved during the debate.

The draft will then be considered at a meeting of representatives of all clubs of deputies so the declaration might be adopted by consensus, whereby parliament would take part in the marking of the 60th anniversary of victory over fascism, May 9.

HSP leader Anto Djapic told MPs his party did not attend today's meeting of representatives of deputies' clubs because it objected that the debate was being adjourned because of the SDP's protest against hate speak in parliament. He said that no HSP member had used hate speak in the debate and that this was an unacceptable reason to adjourn the debate.

Seks then put the proposal to adjourn to the vote. It was supported by every MP except the HSP's five.

Seks said initiatives to mark the 60th anniversary of victory over fascism had also come from the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Antifascist Fighters Alliance and other institutions and organisations. He added the parliament presidency would convene on Tuesday to decide how parliament would take part in the commemoration.

By agreeing on the task force, parliament ended a long and fierce debate on the IDS and HSP draft declarations. MPs spoke about Croatian history from 1945 to 1990, with an emphasis on communist crimes against Croats.

The agreement was preceded by meetings of deputies' clubs. The meeting of the HDZ club was attended also by the party leader, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader.
