ZAGREB, April 1 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Friday decided to bind public officials to declare ways in which they have acquired their property and the sources of funds they have used to buy real estate and movables.

The Sabor adopted the relevant amendments moved by the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP), and changed the Conflict of Interest Act in segments referring to the declarations of assets made by officials performing public duties.

Thirty days after the law enters into force, which is likely to happen in mid-April, all state officials will have to add statements on how they have acquired assets to their declarations of assets, which they have already submitted.

The Sabor today adopted amendments to the Farmland Act, creating conditions for speedier privatisation, namely speedier sale, concession-granting and lease of state-owned arable land.

The parliament changed the Act on Maritime Fisheries, which includes more severe penalties for those who violate bans on the trade and possession of date-shells.

Small-scale and sport fishing implies that up to five kilos of fish can be caught in a day.

MPs then ratified a bilateral agreement with Bosnia-Herzegovina on cross-border traffic and cooperation. The treaty defines border areas, and states that there are 23 permanent border crossings and two seasonal ones.

A declaration on disabled persons' rights was passed. The document binds the government to brief the parliament once a year about the implementation of measures defined by a national strategy for disabled citizens.

A government-sponsored bill on the establishment of eight new municipalities was not adopted, having received the votes of 76 MPs, one short of the required 77.

This has set a precedent in the multiparty parliament, as bills sponsored by the government have always been adopted so far.

The 13th parliamentary session will resume on 6 April.
