The new Kosovo government should be formed as soon as possible so that problems could be solved and Kosovo could move forward, said Solana, supporting the forming of a broad ruling coalition after the departure of Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj for The Hague.
After talks with Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova and acting Prime Minister Adem Salihaj this morning, Solana said that based on Kosovo's constitutional framework the Kosovo president had the obligation to meet as soon as possible with all political forces in Kosovo and form the new government.
In that regard, the Kosovo president has the full support of the European Union, Solana said, congratulating Kosovo citizens on the restraint they demonstrated after PM Haradinaj surrendered voluntarily to the Hague tribunal which indicted him for war crimes.
Accepting Solana's message, Rugova said that there was no constitutional crisis in Kosovo for the time being and that the new prime minister would be appointed on time.
After arriving in Pristina on Monday evening, Solana first met UN Civil Administrator Soren Jessen Petersen. During the day, he is expected to meet local Albanian and Serb political leaders and hold a news conference.
Solana's visit to Kosovo is connected with the current situation in the province following the resignation of PM Haradinaj and his departure for The Hague.
