Following a joint meeting with Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova, Premier Ramush Haradinaj and UN Civil Administrator Soren Jessen-Petersen, Karamanlis said that the future of Kosovo and of Serbia and Montenegro was in the European Union, and pledged Greece's support on their path to the EU.
The Greek prime minister pointed out that cooperation with the European Union, the United States and Russia was necessary in defining Kosovo's status.
The Greek government wants Kosovo to meet all the standards set by the international community, particularly those relating to the safety of minorities, so that all citizens can live freely and peacefully, Karamanlis said.
Karamanlis also met a representative of the Serb community in Kosovo, Oliver Ivanovic, and visited Greek soldiers serving in the NATO-led KFOR peacekeeping force.
