ZAGREB, Feb 24 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament resumed its session on Thursday afternoon with a debate on draft amendments to the law on financing local government units, moved by the opposition People's Party (HNS).

During the debate, MPs of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) said they would not support the proposal for the decentralisation and strengthening of local authorities, while opposition MPs backed the HNS-sponsored amendments.

Later in the day, the Sabor considered a declaration on the rights of disabled persons, proposed by the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Vesna Skulic of the SDP said the purpose of the declaration was to strengthen the rights of disabled persons, but the parliamentary committee on labour, social welfare and public health did not greenlight the document.

A government official also opposed the adoption of this declaration, while opposition MPs again were in favour of the SDP proposal.

The parliament wrapped up today's session with the debate on this item.

On Friday, the parliament is due to discuss a declaration on principles for bilateral negotiations with Slovenia, tabled by the opposition Croatian Party of Rights (HSP).

After discussing some other 20 items on the agenda and voting on the discussed issues, the Sabor is to end its 12th session on Friday afternoon.
