According to the LS chief Zlatko Benasic who addressed reporters in a break of Saturday's session of the LS leadership in Zagreb, his party saw the local elections as a test for further closer cooperation between the two parties and plans for the merger of the LS and the HSLS into one party.
Benasic recalled that the cooperation between the two Liberal parties had been lasting at the local level since 2000, adding that the cooperation of the LS with the HSLS at the national level and in parliament would depend on further cooperation of the latter with the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ).
