The commission's task is not to find solutions to outstanding border issues but to shed more light on historical facts, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader told the government on Thursday.
The PM reiterated that in case the two countries failed to find solutions to outstanding issues, problems would go to international arbitration. Arbitration remains the last option, it is legal and legitimate and often used in international relations, Sanader said.
The proposal for the commission was put forward by Slovenia at the end of 2004, and PM Sanader accepted it at a recent meeting with his Slovene counterpart Janez Jansa.
The Croatian Foreign Ministry was today authorised to harmonise all activities aimed at the establishment of the said body.
The Sanader cabinet today appointed Jakov Sucevic head of the Financial Police.
It also appointed Igor Pokaz Assistant Defence Minister to succeed Jelena Grcic Polic after she was relieved of duty.
