Speaking to reporters in Belgrade after meeting senior Serbian government officials, Pack said that education was crucial for the prevention of incidents as most of them were found to have been caused by young people.
Pack said that a large number of refugees and displaced persons who settled in Vojvodina were not aware of the tradition of multiethnicity there. She also cited a high unemployment rate and the bad economic situation in the province as possible causes of incidents that occurred over the past year and a half.
Pack said that talks with victims of incidents and Interior Ministry officials showed that the police did not respond to incidents fast and efficiently enough, and that her delegation therefore asked Interior Minister Dragan Jocic to instruct the local police to respond faster in the event of new incidents.
