Jean Claude Juncker, Prime Minister of Luxembourg, that is currently presiding over the European Union, told Mesic that he hoped that Croatia would open accession negotiations with the Union on 17 March, as it was scheduled.
The Croatian President met his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, whom he invited to arrive in Croatia on a working visit.
French President Jacques Chirac told Mesic that he "waited for his re-election so as to visit him officially in Croatia then."
During his meeting with Mesic, the newly elected Ukrainian President, Viktor Yuschenko, announced his arrival at Mesic's inauguration on 18 February adding that he would remain in Zagreb a day after Mesic's inauguration for the second term in office.
Mesic also met for talks with Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic and they agreed that the Croatian head of state would officially visit Bratislava in the second half of this year.
Mesic and his Romanian counterpart Traian Basescu arranged the exchange of official visits.
Mesic held brief meetings with his Polish and Austrian counterparts, Alexander Kwasniewski and Heinz Fischer respectively.
