The appointment has elicited negative reactions in the Serb List for Kosovo and Metohija, whose representatives claim that Petkovic does not represent the Serb community.
Oliver Ivanovic, the president of this party, which did not run in recent parliamentary elections, has expressed willingness to participate in Kosovo institutions provided that Pristina and Belgrade recognise his party as the legitimate representative of the Serb community in Kosovo.
Serb representatives are entitled to 10 seats in the province's Parliament as well as two minister's and three deputy minister's posts in the Government.
International and Kosovo officials in Pristina have called on Serb representatives to fill those posts or they will go to Petkovic's party, which ran in the elections and won two seats in Parliament.
