MOSTAR, Jan 4 (Hina) - Croatia's Consul-General in the southern Bosnian city of Mostar, Ratko Maricic, has refuted accusations by independent presidential candidate Boris Miksic about alterations of election results in Herzegovina, particularly in Mostar, which Miksic claimed resulted in his elimination from the second round of Croatia's presidential elections.

Maricic told Hina on Tuesday that there had been no changes of the results after the elections, which were held last Sunday.

"After counting ballots, polling committees at 22 polling stations in Herzegovina sent election results by fax to the State Election Commission in Zagreb. After that the consulate general in Mostar was notified of the results, but the consulate did not inform the State Election Commission in Zagreb of the results," Maricic said, adding that the consulate had provided only technical assistance in the organisation of the elections.

Local media this evening carried a call by Miksic's election team to stage a peaceful rally on 7 January in protest against what it called irregularities in the counting of votes in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
