ZAGREB, Jan 3 (Hina) - Croatian Army Brigadier Tomislav Pavicic will assume the duties of deputy commander of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in India and Pakistan on January 5 and will thus become the highest ranking Croatian soldier in an international peace mission, the Defence Ministry said on Monday.

This will be the second peacekeeping mission for Brigadier Pavicic after one in Sierra Leone where he served as an operational officer in 2002.

Croatia became involved in the UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) mission in 2002. There are five Croatian soldiers in India and Pakistan at the moment.

Croatian troops are currently participating in seven peacekeeping missions, and the Defence Ministry said it was expecting more invitations this year.
