TIVAT, Aug 4 (Hina) - The Croatian Civil Initiative (HGI), the
only Croat political party in Montenegro, has accepted an offer of a
pre-election alliance with the ruling coalition of the Democratic Party of
Socialists (DPS) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which will ensure it at
least one seat in the state parliament and proportional representation in
Montenegro's executive authority. A decision to accept the offer was
made by the HGI Central Committee on Thursday.
Under an agreement to be signed in the coming days, the DPS will give
the HGI one parliamentary seat on the winning slate. The deputy will be
independent in deciding and implementing his or her party's platform.
The HGI's participation in the executive authority will be proportional
to representation in parliament.
In the city of Tivat the HGI has been in the ruling coalition with the
DPS and the SDP for the past two and a half years and mayor Mato Marovic is a
senior HGI official.
Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic has called parliamentary and
municipal elections for September 10, the first since the country gained
independence in May.
