extended his condolences to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin following a
plane crash in Siberia on Sunday in which nearly 140 people were killed, the
Croatian President's Office said in a statement on Monday morning.
The Russian Airbus A-310, on a domestic flight from Moscow to Irkutsk, crashed
on landing and burst into flames. The plane was carrying 192 passengers and
eight crew members. 63 people survived, of whom 52 are still in hospital.
Russian Ria Novosti news agency quoted sources from the investigating
commission as saying that the disaster was caused by a failure in the plane's
breaking system.
Putin declared July 10 as a day of mourning for the victims.
