The SAA could be concluded in a few months, as was envisaged earlier, the Serbian government said in a statement after the meeting, adding that it was committed to European integration and that it had done a big part of the job in bringing Serbia closer to the Union.
Earlier today, Rehn met Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic in Brussels. Prior to arriving in Belgrade, Rehn said a new, amended negotiating mandate would be adopted for Serbia and that the SAA could be signed in a few months if all the conditions were met.
Rehn was also due to meet Serbia and Montenegro President Svetozar Marovic, but the latter cancelled due to commitments in Montenegro, a statement said.
On Tuesday, Rehn is due to meet other senior Serbian officials and attend a meeting of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe Regional Table, the first to take place in Serbia since the initiative's establishment in 1999.
