Earlier in the day it was reported that local Albanian women had attacked a convoy as they believed that it consisted of Serbs who arrived to visit their homes, but it was later established that the UN Mission police accompanied the two lawyers working for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
UNMIK in Kosovo's capital of Pristina on Thursday condemned the incident in which three police officers, an interpreter and several villagers sustained injuries.
The women threw stones at the convoy, prompting local police and members of the Kosovo Force to use tear gas to prevent the incident from escalating. About a dozen Albanian women and children were taken to a hospital in Prizren due to complaints caused by tear gas, the local Albanian sources reported.
In March 1999 Serb forces killed 113 Albanians in Mala Krusa and burned their bodies. There is still no information on many people who went missing during the attack.
It is assumed that the lawyers, who defend former senior Serbian officials indicted for the massacre, came to carry out an investigation on the ground.
