The U.S. position is to solve the status during this year, Wisner said in Pristina on Monday after he held talks with top Kosovo officials, including President Fatmir Sejdiu, and the opposition leader, Hashim Thaqi.
He added that the United States supported the negotiating position of the UN special envoy for Kosovo's talks, Marti Ahtisaari.
President Sejdiu welcomed the U.S. permanent engagement in efforts to define Kosovo's status.
On Tuesday, Pristina and Belgrade will hold the fifth round of negotiations.
