President Mesic met the former US official during his visit to San Francisco, where he will speak before the World Affairs Council about the role of small countries on the 21st century international political scene.
President Mesic and Schultz discussed the break up of the former Yugoslavia, Croatia's current position in Europe, and regional crises.
Schultz, who served in the US administration during the term of President Ronald Reagan and who is still an influential politician, recalled his visit to Dubrovnik 30 years ago and accepted President Mesic's invitation to be his guest in Croatia.
President Mesic also gave an interview for the San Francisco Chronicle that was published on Monday.
