ZAGREB, March 29 (Hina) - Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) president Anto Djapic told the press on Wednesday that he was exceptionally satisfied with his week-long visit to the United States during which he met Croatian American representatives and US politicians.

Speaking to the press in the parliament building, Djapic said that his talks with Croatian Americans focused on the strengthening of the party's position and the promotion of its positions in the United States.

Talks with US Congressmen focused on Croatia-US relations, notably the US request for Croatia to sign an agreement on the non-extradition of US citizens to the permanent International Criminal Court, Djapic said.

The HSP advocates that Croatia sign the agreement because after the arrest of General Ante Gotovina it "closed the chapter on the Hague tribunal" and started EU entry negotiations. Also, the agreement has been signed by some EU members, candidate countries, as well as Bosnia-Herzegovina and Macedonia, Djapic said.

The talks with US politicians also focused on initiatives to include Croatia in a western Balkan free trade zone, which Djapic said would be unfavourable for Croatia and its interests. Croatia should regulate relations with its neighbours with bilateral agreements, he added.

Djapic said that in his talks with US officials he had objected to the difficult position of Bosnian Croats and called on the US to join in activities regarding constitutional changes in the country so that the status of its Croat community was not reduced to one of a national minority.
