According to a press release issued by the Office of the President, Mesic and De Brichambaut agreed that cooperation between the Mission of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and Croatia's authorities was very good, notably in efforts to facilitate Croatia's bid to join the European Union and NATO.
Croatia has set a good example to other southeastern European countries, de Brichambaut said.
Mesic said that the return of refugees and the protection of national minorities' rights was of crucial importance for Croatia's democratic image, and that both the government and local authorities should be engaged in that process.
Croatia's parliamentary delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, led by Tonino Picula, held a working meeting with the OSCE Secretary-General. In attendance was also the head of the OSCE Mission to Croatia, Jorge Fuentes.
De Brichambaut said Croatia was an example of successful democratisation, adding that the OSCE Mission was nearing the completion of its mandate, the Sabor's press office said in a statement.
According to him, the remaining tasks of the OSCE Mission are to help complete the process of refugee return and consolidate the rule of law.
Tonino Picula said that the return of refugees within the Sarajevo Declaration was proceeding very well, adding that cooperation between the OSCE and Croatia was extremely good.
The OSCE delegation also held talks with the chairman of the Sabor's Committee on Inter-parliamentary Cooperation, Milorad Pupovac.
Pupovac confirmed the government's intention to raise the issue of refugee return to the regional level to involve all neighbouring countries.
Pupovac, who is also a parliamentary representative of ethnic Serbs, said Croatia had done a lot in this field, but it still had to settle some technical issues and complete the process of reconstruction.
Pupovac pointed to the importance of processing war crimes to promote coexistence,
