ZAGREB, Feb 8 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic received his Estonian counterpart Arnold Rueuetel in Zagreb on Wednesday to discuss ways of boosting trade between the two countries.

Croatia and Estonia are friendly countries and there are no obstacles to the further development of cooperation between them, Mesic told reporters after the talks.

Recalling that Estonia was among the first countries to recognise Croatia as an independent state, Mesic said that the Baltic country fully supported Croatia in its efforts to join the European Union and NATO.

Mesic said that the Estonian economy was showing very good results and that it was a good example of how a small transition economy could be attractive to investors, well-integrated into the European Union and socially sustainable.

The two presidents discussed possibilities of developing transport and energy routes, and in that context they welcomed the planned introduction of direct flights between Tallin and Dubrovnik by the end of April.

Estonia provides full support to Croatia as one of the most successful countries in the region which can really achieve its goals, Rueuetel said.

The Estonian president was also received by Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks.

Later on Wednesday, the two presidents addressed a Croatian-Estonian economic forum, which took place in the Croatian Chamber of the Economy.

Speaking of the situation in his country after political changes in the early 1990s, Rueuetel said that Estonia had implemented many radical economic reforms to become one of the fastest growing economies in the region.
