Somogy said it was significant that since 2004 the Hungarian Embassy in Zagreb had also been acting as a NATO diplomatic contact mission, the President's Office said in a statement.
Mesic stressed both countries had same strategic objectives, adding that Croatia appreciated Hungary's experience from the process of joining Euro-Atlantic associations.
According to the statement, Mesic and Somogy stressed the two countries' good political and economic cooperation and expressed satisfaction with an increased economic trade and a larger number of Hungarian tourists in Croatia.
Speaking of the importance of national minorities in both countries, Mesic and Somogy said both national minorities - the Hungarian in Croatia and the Croatia in Hungary - were well integrated and connected.
The talks also focused on the current situation in the region. Mesic and Somogy stressed that all solutions concerning Kosovo needed to be reached through dialogue with the international community and without the use of force.
The two officials also talked about the Croatia-Hungary joint candidacy for the 2012 European Football Championship.
