State Secretary Branko Bacic announced re-programming of the debt towards pension and health insurance funds, saying that seamen would be able to settle the debt in installments over the period of two years.
Although a majority of parliamentary parties supported the government-sponsored amendments, the Opposition asked the government to write off the debt instead.
Most of the parties also dismissed a motion by the Social Democrats (SDP) to set up an investigating commission to establish facts concerning the statement by Interior Minister Ivica Kirin about monitoring a server uploading video clips on YouTube ridiculing him.
A total of 64 deputies of the ruling coalition voted against the SDP motion, 30 Opposition deputies supported it and one MP abstained.
Parliament almost unanimously adopted the 2006 business report of the Croatian Homeland War Soldiers' Fund. Deputies endorsed several reports for last year - those of the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency (HANFA), the Croatian National Bank (HNB) and the Agency for Small Enterprise.
Parliament wrapped up this week's work and will resume its 26th session next week.
