HNS member Zlatko Koracevic said that the HNB had set as its main goal keeping the kuna stable, but "it forgot that the purpose of monetary authorities is not to protect the kuna, but to ensure economic prosperity".
The HNS also criticised the central bank's decision to limit loan growth, which Koracevic said had only affected small domestic banks that were mostly granting loans to small businesses and trades.
He went on to say that banks in foreign ownership were bypassing that decision by making the assessment of clients and their applications in Croatia, and then sending the applications to their headquarters abroad to finalise the procedure, which was why the best clients were being lost and the foreign debt was growing.
In a debate on HBOR, deputies welcomed the fact that the bank had lately focused on loans to the business sector, notably exports.
Last year, HBOR approved 649 loans worth around 3.7 billion kuna, of which 39% was intended for export and 39% for the economy.
At the end of today's sitting, MPs discussed a report on the work of the Croatian Agency for Small Businesses (HAMAG). The session will continue on Thursday.
