A round table discussion was held in Zagreb on Thursday to mark Croatia's entry into the foundation and to mark the national day of donating and transplanting organs that Croatia observes on 26 May.
About 1000 transplant candidates are on the national waiting list.
Less than 200 organs are transplanted in Croatia annually.
Most of those patients, 651, are waiting for kidneys. Annually, only 120 to 130 kidney transplant surgeries are performed.
As many as 30 percent of transplant candidates die while they are on the waiting list.
Eurotransplant membership should facilitate the procedure for finding and donating organs. Other members are Austria, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Slovenia. All of them have together a population of 120 million.
