OSIJEK, May 21 (Hina) - Branimir Glavas, an independent member of
Parliament who is in detention in Osijek awaiting trial for war crimes
committed against civilians in this eastern city in 1991, has ended his hunger
strike, the Osijek County Court said in a statement on Monday. Today
Glavas was examined by a prison physician, who found that he was no longer on
strike and was willing to gradually take food under the doctor's supervision,
the statement said.
Glavas has been in custody since April 17. He started a hunger strike
on April 27 and refused to undergo medical checkups, as a result of which his
health deteriorated and he had to be transferred to a prison hospital in
Zagreb.
After a team of doctors examined him and found that his health was
good, Glavas was transferred back to the Osijek prison on May 19.
