The government accepted objections made during the first reading of the bill that appeals should not be considered by the Administrative Court alone, but that a special body should be established to deal with appeals.
The new bill gives asylum seekers the right to primary and secondary school education, as well as the right to work after waiting for asylum for a year.
It also guarantees subsidiary protection for persons who have not been granted asylum but cannot return to their country of origin for humanitarian reasons.
The bill has been adjusted to EU regulations and guarantees asylum seekers the right of residence in Croatia, basic living conditions and accommodation, health care, primary and secondary school education, financial support and free legal aid, humanitarian aid, the right to work, the freedom of religion and religious education for children.
It was also announced that a second joint session of the Croatian and Hungarian governments would take place in Zagreb on Thursday and that it would focus on a number of joint projects in various areas, including infrastructure, energy, cross-border cooperation, national minorities, home affairs, and justice.
