Montenegrin President says Djukanovic and Marovic weren't in war against Croatia

PODGORICA, March 17 (Hina) - Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic has sad that another two politicians in the country, Svetozar Marovic and Milo Djukanovic, were not deployed in the war in the Dubrovnik battlefield.

"Marovic and Djukanovic did not wear the military uniform, they did not violate the laws and customs of war and did not influence in any way what happened in the Dubrovnik battlefield or the pages of the Montenegrin history that all of us now would like to close," the Montenegrin head of state told the national television on Friday evening.

Vujanovic commented on media speculations about what might happen if Croatia asked for dismissal of some office-holders in Montenegro due to their engagement in the JNA-supported aggression against the southernmost parts of Croatia in early 1990s.

Vujanovic recalled that while he had been the Montenegrin President, Milo Djukanovic had extended apologies for what had happened in the Dubrovnik battlefield. Djukanovic did it on behalf of Montenegro and its citizens.

Marovic did the same while he used to be the President of the state union of Serbia and Montenegro, Vujanovic added.

Both (Djukanovic and Marovic) are perceived in Croatia as people who have given a strong contribution to overcoming the consequences of the Dubrovnik battlefield," said the current Montenegrin head of state.

In case it is proved that some of office-holders in Montenegro did something against war rules, they should withdraw from the posts. If they do not withdraw this undermines the communication between the two countries, Vujanovic said adding that the Montenegrin leadership would not allow the worsening of bilateral relations between the two neighbours.
