"I don't believe anyone could have promised on Montenegro's behalf the payment of war reparations to Croatia, because we know well how this issue is treated by international law and practice," Sturanovic told members of parliament in response to a question put by the leader of the People's Party, Predrag Popovic.
Sturanovic said that the issue had not been raised in his contacts or in contacts of his government with Croatian officials.
"I categorically declare that the government of Montenegro has assumed no obligations in that regard," Sturanovic said.
After Sturanovic's speech, Popovic said he would call for the dismissal of the chairman of the Montenegrin Assembly, Ranko Krivokapic, over his statement that "Montenegro should pay war reparations to Croatia."
"That prejudges Montenegro's responsibility for the break-up of Yugoslavia while Croatia and its leadership are fully exonerated for the bloody disintegration of the former state," Popovic said.
