Sanader said it was not good for ministers to hold seats in 15 or 20 committees, because this was not to way to learn what is happening in certain companies.
He, however, added that public could also criticise his cabinet if it did not have its representatives in companies, particularly in those with business loses.
Sanader therefore proposed that a department be set up in the Faculty of the Economy which would be in charge of programmes aimed at educating people for membership in committees.
The issue of a possible conflict of interest of minister holding a seat in a supervisory committee of a public company was raised after a recent scandal in the southern Adriatic shipyard of Brodosplit. The Opposition holds Economy Minister Branko Vukelic politically responsible for concluding harmful contracts in his capacity as chairman of the supervisory board of the Brodosplit shipyard, which resulted in six million US dollars of damage to the Split-based company.
