MUNICH, Feb 22 (Hina) - Commenting on media reports on his possible visit to Social Democratic Party (SDP) leader Ivica Racan, who is undergoing cancer treatment in a Munich hospital, Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said he wanted to visit Racan and express his solidarity with him, but that he respected Racan's need for peace.

Sanader was speaking to reporters in Munich where, together with the head of the Bavarian government, Edmund Stoiber, he opened the CBR tourism fair, at which Croatia was this year's partner country.

When asked by Croatian reporters to comment on the Brodosplit scandal and criminal charges against retired general Vladimir Zagorec, Sanader expressed his full support for the rule of law in Croatia.

The prime minister was also asked to comment on today's demand by the SDP for Economy Minister Branko Vukelic to step down over his role in the Brodosplit scandal. "I expect nothing special in the case of a minister who is doing his job well," he said.

Sanader dismissed the parliamentary debate on the matter as "a miserable attempt at scoring political points."

"Croatia is a democratic country and it's not up to the SDP to decide who is guilty and who is not," the prime minister said.
