PRISTINA, Feb 14 (Hina) - The police commissioner of the United
Nation's Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), Stephen Curtis, on Wednesday offered his
resignation at the request of UN Civil Administrator Joachim Ruecker due to
police conduct at last Saturday's protest rally in Pristina, when two Albanian
protestors were killed. Curtis told a news conference in Pristina
that he had done his utmost to see that the protest rally organised by the
Self-Determination movement might pass peacefully. However, the situation
escalated and during the riots, a dozen protestors sustained injuries. Two of
them died after they were hit by rubber bullets in the head.
Kosovo Minister of the Interior Fatmir Rexhepi has already stepped down
and his deputy Blerim Kuqi is currently the acting interior minister.
