The law is designed to reduce corruption to the lowest possible level in local self-governments and in the state administration, the minister said.
Units of internal auditors have already been established in all 13 ministries, which was a prerequisite to start enforcing the law.
The adoption of this law was Croatia's obligation in a bid to adjust its legislation to the 32nd policy chapter of the European Union's acquis communautaire called Financial Control.
Two CARDS projects have already been launched to help establish internal auditors' units.
Croatia has so far met three requirements in this regard: it has adopted the legislative framework, established units of internal auditors in ministries, and trained internal auditors.
So far, 157 candidates have been trained with the assistance of the CARDS project and the Croatian Finance Ministry.
