ZAGREB, Jan 1 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Monday sent letters to his Romanian and Bulgarian counterparts, Traian Basescu and Georgi Purvanov, congratulating on the admission of their countries into the European Union.
ZAGREB, Jan 1 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Monday sent letters to his Romanian and Bulgarian counterparts, Traian Basescu and Georgi Purvanov, congratulating on the admission of their countries into the European Union.

According to a press release issued by the Office of President Mesic, he expressed his conviction that Croatia's status of a candidate country and full EU membership of Romania and Bulgaria would additionally encourage efforts aimed at promoting close cooperation.

Mesic also hopes that Bucharest and Sofia will continue supporting Croatia's on the road towards the European family.

The accession of Bulgaria and Romania on 1 January raises the EU's membership to 27 states.
