ZAGREB, Jan 25 (Hina) - The Croatian Government on Thursday adopted guidelines for the elaboration of a new law on general administrative procedure with the aim of simplifying and streamlining the work of the state administration in conformity with European standards.

Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said that this was one of the most complex and most important regulations in the legal system, recalling that relevant laws currently in force were still based on regulations from the former Yugoslav federation, which was why they must be amended.

The head of the Central State Office for Public Administration, Antun Palaric, said that the purpose of the changes was to protect citizens' rights and apply state-of-the-art technology so as to accelerate administrative procedures.

According to Palaric, several million administrative cases are solved annually.
