Decision to suspend investigation of Glavas in Garage war crimes case becomes final

ZAGREB, Jan 11 (Hina) - The decision to temporarily suspend the investigation into Branimir Glavas in the so-called Garage case is final because a Zagreb County Court panel of judges has turned down the prosecution's appeal against the decision, Court spokesman Kresimir Devcic said on Thursday.

"The panel of judges has accepted arguments by Investigating Judge Zdenko Posavec who made the decision on the temporary suspension of the investigation based on the opinion of a team of doctors that Glavas is unfit to take part in the proceedings," Devcic told Hina, adding that the decision had become final and could no longer be appealed.

The investigation into Glavas and Krunoslav Fehir in the Garage case was launched in June last year. The two men are suspected of the torture and killing of civilians from Osijek, mostly Serbs, in 1991.

Another investigation into Glavas, launched as part of the so-called Sellotape case, has been temporarily suspended as well due to Glavas's poor condition caused by a long-lasting hunger strike. This investigation concerns the murder of civilians, mostly Serbs, by the Drava river in Osijek in 1991.

Both investigations will continue when Glavas recovers. He has been undergoing treatment in the Osijek Hospital since his release from custody in early December last year.
