A round of industry-linked buying sent the market racing through nearby resistance, touching off buy stops near $1,370 and again at $1,378 basis the March contract. Commission houses joined the fray, bidding the market up to $1,383 before it encountered stiff resistance from origins. The market pulled back slightly, but hovered at sharply higher levels into the close. March futures rose $16 on the day, to $1,380, ranging from $1,360 to $1,383. Second-position May also gained $16, to $1,402, while the outer months firmed $14 to $18. An estimated 7,857 lots changed hands on the day. While today's rally should bolster cocoa's technical outlook in the near-term, dealers said that an upward correction was all but inevitable following the market's recent wobbly performance. Cocoa futures have closed lower in five of last seven sessios. Having filled a chart gap today betwen $1,375 and $1,378, March would next need to clear $1,391, chartists said.
