Merino fleece prices were mixed, with 19 micron up to one percent cheaper, 20/21/25 microns were slightly cheaper, while 22 micron was 0.5 percent dearer and 23/24 micron slightly dearer. Merino skirtings tended lower with 19 microns unchanged and 20/21 microns up to one percent cheaper. Crossbreds also tended lower with 26 micron unchanged and 27/28/29 micron 0.5 percent cheaper and 30/31 microns one percent cheaper. WI said most buying came from Japan and China with good support from Taiwan. Of the 15,925 bales on offer, 19.3 percent was passed in. But further easing in fine wool prices at auction helped pull finer tops values down by two to five pence per kg while all others remained steady. There were few reports of new business although sources said players operating exclusively in the domestic market are having an easier time than exporters. "Few buyers feel this is an opportune time to order unless they absolutely must to keep machinery active," one said.
