Sharon Johnson of Frank Schneider and Co said the latest crop estimate from Pakistan may have ultimately lent some support. Pakistan's Central Cotton Research Institute reported Sunday that the 1996/97 crop would be more than nine million 375-lb bales. This would be lower than the initial 10 million bale target. "Pakistan was a big exporter last year and there were those who thought it would be this year as well. With a lower crop estimate they may not be exporting so much, if any," Johnson said. The market was also awaiting next Tuesday's USDA cotton figures. December cotton settled 0.05 cent firmer at 75.52 cents per pound, traded 72.60 to 71.90 cents. 051048 MET nov 96
