Chicago prices came under pressure from news that Taiwan had passed at its soybean tenders and from a less-than-expected weekly crush figure. Taiwan passed owing to a cutback in animal feed demand following an outbreak of foot and mouth disease and a ban on pork exports. Earlier in the week Taiwan rejected US soybeans as too expensive and had put back its tender on Thursday to Friday after removing the US from the specification as a supplier owing to price. Ivan Wong's latest crop report pressured Malaysian palm oil futures, but had little impact in Europe. "On the whole the market tends to react only to the official figures," said one trader. Malaysian private forecaster Ivan Wong estimated local palm oil output in March at 630,000 tonnes, 25 percent up over February. Wong put palm oil stocks for end-March at 710,000 tonnes, compared to the actual volume of 722,993 tonnes noted by the Palm Oil Registration and Licensing Authority (PORLA) at end-January. Exports were estimated at 545,000 tonnes against February's 376,885 tonnes. At the close crude palm oil sellers were $5 down while products were $2.50 to $5 lower with no fresh business reported during the afternoon. Coconut oil closed unchanged to $2.50 down after Mar/Apr traded at $730 and Apr/May at 722.50 a tonne cif. Palmkernel oil was unchanged and neglected. Dutch soy oil finished with sellers 0.50 to 1.50 guilders down after prompt traded at 99.75 and Apr at 100.50 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Dutch/EU rape oil closed 0.50 guilders lower after Aug/Oct fetched 101.25 and 101 guilders a 100 kilos in outright trade while May/Jul traded at 102 guilders in a switch with Nov/Jan at 102.25 guilders.
